A Pastor with GUTS! This prayer was given in Kansas at the opening session of their Senate. It seems prayer still upsets some people. When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard.Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equillibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem. We have abused our power and called it politics. Wd have coveted out neighbor's possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have rediculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Amen! br/> br/> |
Sullivan County Tea Party
Tea Party Hosts Constitutional Frenzy
by Sharon Space-Bamberger for the Sullivan County Democrat Monticello: Sullivan County Tea Party Patriots are not bitter, they are angry. They want to protect American's right to bear arms, to have freedom of religion; and other benefits guaranteed by the amendments to the Constitution. Over seventy people attended a Constitutional Seminar hosted by the S.C. Tea Party at Mr. Willy's in Monticello. Listeners took notes as Tea Party Patriot Jim Reed, Constitutional Scholar Richard Baum, Esq., S.C. District Attorney James T. Farrell, S.C. Court Judge Michael McGuire, S.C. Sheriff Michael Schiff, and Retired Special Forces Captain Ray Carney spoke about our constitution and it's amendments.
In introductory remarks Tea Party Patriot Jim Reed explained,"We are not a political party. We are not the radical right. We are your neighbors. We would like to restore the wonderful Country that we grew up in so our children and grandchildren can have the same opportunities we had. Our national debt appalls Richard Baum; Esq. "Thomas Jefferson said, "To preserve our independence we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. Our federal government is completely out of control; we turn out laws with reckless abandonment. We are taking the money of people who work and giving it to people who don't work. Enough with the taxes, enough with regulations and enough with the spending! We have equalization by taxation. Understanding these documents is crucial to our way out of this. District Attorney James T. Farrell spoke about judicial review. "There is a serious threat to the Constitution and our way of life because of the nine men and some women who have sat on the Supreme Court. An example is District of Columbia vs. Heller; it took over two hundred years for the Supreme Court to uphold the 2nd Amendment by a 5-4 vote. Those people have the power to say what the law means and they are unelected. "The framers of the constitution did not intend general authority of the judiciary. Hamilton said ´There is no Liberty with the legislative and executive branches holding it over the judiciary.´ We need to look at all of the attacks on our constitution. We need to see that the people who sit on our court will protect us. County Court Judge Michael Mc Guire choose the topic of," The First Amendment from today back to its foundations. See how those words have been twisted by judicial review. We've had the ability to change our government without fear. Americans' have used this ability to speak freely. The First Amendment is just forty-five words. McGuire continued, "Court decisions have expanded the first amendment almost to absurdity. Tens of thousands of cases have been written and Madison would not recognize the interpretations of those words. Those words were put in place to insure people would have a check on the government. Today, we are still grappling with what those forty-five words mean. I submit they mean just what they say. Sullivan County Sheriff Michael A. Schiff Captain, spoke about the Second Amendment. "It is so short and so simple, why is it so complicated? ´The right of the people to keep and bear arms should not be infringed.´ Some believe only militia should bear arms. They'd like you to believe that it was not the intent of the writers for a private citizen to keep and bear arms.
In any national disaster you are at risk. In some situations, police refused to go in. I think any law-abiding citizen in their right mind should have a weapon. The police are usually there after an incident has occurred, and that is too late. He paused, "I don't want to be quoted as saying that everyone should have a gun. Some shouldn't. Back in the day, that was the reality and it's that way today. There are gangs and organized crime. Retired Special Forces Captain Ray Carney wants everyone to take their 2nd Amendment rights seriously, "I am a firearms aficionado. How many of your belong to the NRA? How many of you have a Pistol Permit? How many of you belong to the N.Y. State Rifle and Pistol Association? Carney noted the raised hands to each question, "I admire and respect Kiryas Joel a great deal because they get what they want. How do they do it? They do it with a voting block The fight for our 2nd Amendment rights is here in our back yard. There's not a lot we can do in Washington, D.C. but we can do it here. If we had 10% of that two and a half million who are firearms owners we could do it. Freedom of speech, freedom of press and the right of the people peacefully to assemble is guaranteed by the Bill of Rights. Without that document, much of what the speakers discussed at the Sullivan County Tea Party's Constitutional seminar would once have been considered treason. Website feedback?
